How Manuka Honey Can Help With Lung Infections

Let's talk about lungs.. those pinkish/grey organs inside your chest that bring oxygen into your body and remove gas and waste. This oxygen that enters your body is then pumped into your blood, which is then sent all over your body.

When you think about it in this depth, your lungs are pretty damn important! It’s amazing to think that while we sleep, work, cook dinner, exercise, our lungs are working hard 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

Is this a good enough reason to take care of them? Absolutely!

Respiratory problems are increasing globally and for some of these infections there is really no choice but to take medication to help.

This blog is going to highlight some of the symptoms to watch out for and how Manuka Honey can help you with your journey to recovery.

Lung infection

Some of the most common lung infections are Cystic Fibrosis, Bronchiectasis, Mycobacterium Abscessus.

Wheezing, shortness of breath and persistent coughing, are just a few of the symptoms that may be your body telling you there is something not right. More often than not, we learn to live with these symptoms and often leave it until our mild symptoms have turned into an infection.

For some of you, these symptoms may be something that you live with on a daily basis. You may have tried medication and not had any results. This is very common as some lung infections are highly resistant to medication and although the medication may give you some relief, you find yourself coughing all too regularly.

There are also some nasty side effects to some lung medications.. including nausea, vomiting, hepatotoxicity, thrombocytopenia, and leucopenia. Which is a great reason to try something that may help you to reduce this medication to result in better living.

The good news is, studies are being undertaken to try and find ways to assist medication to fight off infections in a more effective way that also means you can reduce the dose of the high strength medication. It is exciting that these studies are looking promising.

Dr Jonathan Cox, senior lecturer in microbiology ay Aston University, said: "By combining a totally natural ingredient such as Manuka Honey with amikacin, one of the most important yet toxic drugs used for treating Mycobacterium Abscessus, we have found a way to potentially kill off these bacteria with eight times less drug than before."

How can Raw Manuka Honey help?

Our Targeted Collection contains the highest level of Methylglyoxal which is the antibacterial ingredient found in Manuka Honey. The higher the UMF rating, the more methylglyoxal the honey contains.

Our Targeted Collection of Manuka Honey is perfect to have in your medicine cabinet for when your cough starts to flare up, when you are taking antibiotics, or to support your body's immune defence in fighting off nasty winter bugs.

We recommend taking this goodness by the spoonful morning and night. It is not recommended to add this particular honey to hot water or baking as you will lose its natural nutrients.
