Peanut Butter Recipe Roundup

Peanut Butter and Honey go together like Ben Affleck and J-Lo. They just work. Doesn’t matter how long you go without them, they work just as well with each other every single time.

Which is why we’ve created a roundup of the best peanut butter recipes with raw honey. We have a few… Needless to say we are all mild peanut butter fanatics in the Steens office (*cough.. some of us may even have peanut putter subscriptions)

The saltiness of the peanut butter combined with the rich sweetness of raw honey is what gets us every time. Add to that the texture of our honey crystals and the crunch of the peanut butter, and it really is a match made in tastebud heaven.

'Peanut butter and honey brings back memories of childhood’ says Ellen, the Marketing Manager of Steens Honey. ‘Dad would always make us two sandwiches for lunch when we went to stay with him. One was a crisp sandwich with butter, and the other was a peanut butter and honey sandwich. I LOVED going to dads because I knew I was going to get my two favourite sandwiches..’

Another favourite memory of Ellen’s is getting a jar of Goober Grape from her American cousins. New Zealand wasn’t so sophisticated at that stage as to have peanut butter and jam mixed in beautiful swirls in the same jar, and her sister Kate got a jar of goober strawberry. Even at that young age, they would eat it straight out of the jar. Who needs bread when you have peanuts and fruit jelly?!

Like peanut butter, honey is one of those things that often stirs nostalgia when you speak with anyone in New Zealand and in fact around the world. Many lucky people had access to a beehive, or a local beekeeper and would either eat the honey and the comb straight out of the hive, or buy from a local beekeeper. In New Zealand, with Manuka Shrubs so rampant back in the 1980’s, Manuka Honey was just one of those kitchen essentials that was always there.

Perhaps that's why we always go back to this delicious combination of flavours – it brings back happy memories of childhood, where days were more carefree, and the sun seemed to always be shining.

Hopefully one or two of these recipes will give you those moments as you create and savour them!

Happy eating, and happy memories.
